About us
Welcome to the site of one of New Zealand's premier private, preparatory schools for boys aged 5 to 13 years.
Hereworth School caters for both day and boarding school boys, offering weekly as well as full term boarding facilities.
Hereworth is recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading independent schools, specialising in primary and intermediate education for boys – both day and boarding. Founded in 1927 by the amalgamation of Heretaunga School (Hastings) and Hurworth School (Wanganui), Hereworth has flourished ever since.
The School is set in magnificent surroundings, situated at the foot of the Te Mata Hills, in the peaceful Hawke’s Bay village of Havelock North and commands stunning views of the Heretaunga Plains. This beautiful and stimulating location, combined with the idyllic warm climate of the area, provides the perfect educational setting in which young boys can grow and develop their life skills.
Designed for Boys
"Designed for Boys"
What do we mean?
We have never wavered from our focus on developing, motivating and educating boys. We have always believed that boys require specific motivation and challenges to help them succeed in being the very best they can be. Today this is proving to be more relevant than ever.
From the gender mix of our teachers to the size of our classes to the size of our sports field, to the style of our boarding facilities - everything about Hereworth is designed to enhance the learning, living and social skills of boys from the hugely important ages of 5 to 13. At the very heart of our philosophy is our focus on setting boys up for life by teaching them self esteem, self-discipline and respect for themselves and others. This is all achieved in a dynamic environment that is active, stimulating, healthy, exciting, rewarding, positively competitive and fun.
That is why Hereworth is truly and proudly designed for boys.
