Parents Association
The Hereworth Parents’ Association work with school management and teachers to maintain, promote and advance the interest and welfare of the School. It endeavours to provide the School with amenities and equipment and through its activities, maintain and develop the interest and goodwill of parents, friends, students and staff.
The HPA holds monthly meetings with an Annual General Meeting at the beginning of Term One, prior to the School Swimming Sports. The AGM elects Executive Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary and Finance Officer) who will hold these positions for two years. The committee do not involve themselves in matters of curriculum, teaching or school policy, but do provide support in terms of personnel and funds. All fund-raising by parents falls under the responsibility of the HPA.
Fund raising activities include a ‘French Affair’ Gala held every two years, an annual Tennis Tournament and ‘Pleasant Shoot’ (clay-target shoot). The PA is well supported by the parent community who assist in events planned each year. It is the aim of the PA to create innovative and fun events that attract not only the school community but also the surrounding community. The events are well supported by Havelock North and local businesses making them a huge success.
At the commencement of each year the PA organise get togethers for each year group as well as participating in regular open days and the new parent introduction function at the start of the year. The PA runs the School Uniform shop which sells used and new uniform items. The shop is open every Wednesday after school as well as other days prior to the start of each year.
The PA is a great way for parents to get involved with the School – it has a reputation for putting ‘fun’ into fundraising. Over the past three years the PA has contributed to a number of significant projects including the new Technology Block, the initiation of an Interactive Whiteboard roll-out, a new Junior School playground and resources for sporting teams, Chapel, music, arts and technology.
