Houses

On starting at Hereworth, boys are assigned to one of our four houses.  The Houses are named after four key past contributors to the school.  N.L. Elder, S.W. Grant and L.S. Rickard were highly respected masters, who each contributed greatly to the culture and success of Hereworth during their significant tenures.  Dr. A.W. Reeve was a school doctor and the first president of the Old Boy’s Association.

Throughout the year boys compete in a number of learning, sporting and cultural Inter-House Competitions.  The winning house is presented with a trophy or cup following each event. Boys can also earn merit points for their school work or efforts on a daily basis and these are added to ongoing house totals.  A ‘small’ house shield is awarded at weekly whole school assemblies, to the house with the highest number of merit points (the boys eagerly await this presentation on Fridays).  At the end of the year all house and merit points are added together, with the winning house being presented with the coveted overall winners shield.
