School Grounds - Post Cyclone Update

Around the Hereworth grounds approximately 30 trees either fell or were damaged as a result of the cyclone, mostly around the ovals or near the tennis courts and 1st Club cricket nets. The Scout’s Gully area, however, on the western boundary of the School with its large elm trees, has been particularly affected. These trees were planted in the early 1970’s and due to their size a number of them came down or lost limbs in the storm.

In order to make Scout’s Gully safe once again, a decision has been made to fell these trees. Where possible the larger sections of these trees will be milled. Advice will be sought to rejuvenate this riparian area with native trees and plants. This will also present an opportunity for the students to redesign and rebuild the mountain bike track through this part of the School. Most of the picket fence which stands alongside our beautiful cricket ground and displays the name and year of many Old boys will be removed and stored for a time so work can be completed prior to being erected once again. We ask for your patience as we work through this process.

I sincerely thank staff, parents, Old boys (young and old) and volunteers who have worked to make the grounds safe as they are returned to a presentable standard. While there is still considerable work to be done the efforts of many over the last few weeks are very much appreciated.

FAMILY CHAPEL SERVICE - Wednesday 15 March

The first Family Chapel service this year is scheduled next Wednesday 15 March at 6.00pm in the ASPAC. (Dress Whites)

There are usually four family chapel services per term, and students from Year Four are expected to attend at least two services. The attendance of services is important in affirming commitment to the special Christian character of Hereworth.

Due to the postponement of our first two services, students are only expected to attend one of the two remaining services this term.

The Choir Installation service exclusive to those in the choir can also count towards an attended service.

If you wish to book your child in for dinner prior to Chapel, then please complete the following booking form. Please note: for catering purposes the cut-off date and time for this is 11.00am Monday 13 March.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr David Wilson by email: chaplain@hereworth.school.nz

On Tuesday 21 March we are inviting potential students and their families to our Open Day, where they can explore the School grounds, meet our wonderful staff, and really get a sense of how their son or daughter will thrive when they enrol at Hereworth.

If you know someone who would be interested in attending Hereworth, please let them know to put Tuesday 21 March in the diary.

Spaces are strictly limited, and more information on how to register for the Open Day can be found HERE

ONE WAY SYSTEM
A reminder that the driveway through the Hereworth grounds is one way only.  The entrance is via Hillsbrook Place and the exit, either via the front or rear of the school, is via Hereworth Grove.

Thank you for observing this for the safety of our students.

HEREWORTH PARENTS' ASSOCIATION (HPA)

This year’s first meeting for the Hereworth Parents' Association will be held on Friday 24 March at 3.30pm

Please join us for this AGM in the Founders' Room, followed by an informal, social gathering including light refreshments to start the weekend.

If you would like to be involved in the School, the Hereworth Parents Association is a wonderful way to join in. Through our various activities, we build relationships within the school and throughout the community, while also helping provide additional amenities and equipment to the students.

The purchase of the EPro8 science kits and the laser cutter have all been funded through recent HPA events. This year, there is even more opportunity to be involved as we farewell our Chair and Treasurer, Tim Gillespie. Consequently, we are seeking volunteers to take on these roles, so if you are interested in being a part of the HPA in one of these positions, please email me at hpa@hereworth.school.nz.

Kind regards
Sarah Brandeburg
Secretary - HPA
