What Great Teaching is all about - Leaving a Lasting Impression!
Many of you would have a story about the moment a teacher influences the course of your life.
This has been brought home to me recently in conversations with two Hereworth Old Boys. One had come to watch his son compete in sport and the other to enrol him into the School.
Both commented separately on how much they had enjoyed their time at Hereworth, in particular the friends they had made and the staff they had come to know and admire.
They also appreciated the quality of the teaching they had received, the structured and disciplined environment within the School and the impact particular subjects and staff had had on the paths they had followed since leaving Hereworth.
At Hereworth our teachers inspire our boys to be their best. They ignite our boys’ thirst for learning. Their wisdom and energy seems boundless and their work helps our boys discover who they are.
Teaching at Hereworth is about managing learning environments with boys who can be at very different places intellectually, physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. It is also about the many small acts of attention, of encouragement and guidance, by which our teachers transmit their love of their subject, their care for the boys and their passion for learning.
Standing before a class, coaching a team, rehearsing for a play, or conducting a music group requires them to portray their best self – knowledgeable, fair, patient, enthusiastic and wise – often for hours on end.
Our teachers don’t always see the complete impact of their best work while the boys are still at Hereworth. However, as revealed in the conversations with these Old Boys recently, their influence can last a lifetime!

COMMUNICATION DURING SCHOOL HOURS
A reminder to all parents that if boys wish to contact their parents during the school day, this must be through their teacher or via the school office.
Boys are not permitted to email their parents or use cell phones to call them. If they are found to have done so there will be a punishment as a consequence.
As per the Student Code of Conduct: 'All mobile phones need to be handed to classroom teachers upon arrival to school and collected at the end of the day.'
Similarly, if parents need to get a message to their son, this should come through the office or the classroom teacher also.
