ANNOUNCEMENT – A new Headmaster for 2024

After a four-month search, we’re pleased to announce our 11th ever Headmaster. And it is a committed educator born and bred in Hawke’s Bay who will be coming back home to lead the School.

Mr Matt Allen will join us at the beginning of 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience, leadership and knowledge after 11 years’ experience as Principal of the Middle School at Scots College in Wellington. He also understands the educational needs of Hawke’s Bay, having previously served at Lindisfarne College for 12 years as Assistant Rector, Head of Years 7-10 and a Boarding Master for 8 years.

After a long search with some incredibly strong candidates, we feel fortunate to have a Headmaster of Mr Allen’s character and capabilities joining us at this exciting time for Hereworth. His recent experience in leading the co-education transition at Scots College makes him an outstanding fit, as we too became a co-educational school in 2023.

Our current Headmaster, Mr Trevor Barman, will be returning to Sydney at the end of the year, after five years of dedicated service to the School for which we are extremely grateful. It is due to his exceptional work ethic and leadership during his tenure at Hereworth that the School now finds itself as a strong, progressive and co-educational institution for boys and girls in Years 0 – 8.

With the School roll the largest it has ever been, and the successful introduction of co-education this year, Hereworth is at an exciting stage in its 95-year history. We look forward to welcoming Mr Matt Allen and his family to our wonderful community as he embarks on the next chapter in our School’s remarkable legacy.
