Boarding is a key feature of life at Hereworth and spaces in the Boarding House are always in demand. If you are interested in boarding for your child, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible using the buttons below.
With Girls' Boarding announced recently and due to open in June of 2026, these are remarkably exciting times at the school, and we look forward to revealing our co-ed Boarding House later in the year.
Comfortable, Safe and Friendly
Spacious, sunny and filled with life, the boarding house is located at the heart of the school.
Our staff understand the support structures our students need in their academic and personal lives, ensuring a safe, friendly and happy place to call home. Our students know there is always a friendly face around for them to talk to about anything they have on their minds.
A Range of Options Available
We offer a range of options to families, with both full-time and 5-day boarding available. Casual options are also available for day students, but places can’t be guaranteed and a minimal charge applies.
Our pupils enjoy roomy communal living areas and cosy dorms to relax in. They can also access the school’s on-site facilities – the art room, computers, technology block, library, and our spectacular grounds where the timeless pleasure of exploring is encouraged.
Girls' Boarding comes to Hereworth
Boarding has been an essential part of the Hereworth experience for 100 years. And now, we are excited to announce that we’ll be offering boarding to our Hereworth Girls from June 2026.
Our brand new Girls’ Boarding Wing will be a purpose-built private area, creating a contemporary, comfortable environment for our trailblazing boarding girls to enjoy. This one dorm, five-bed facility will sit within the main hostel footprint, while remaining a strictly private zone.
And we're thrilled to announce all five beds were snapped up within days of this announcement. Thankfully, we have plans to expand, so if you're interested in reading more about Girls' Boarding at Hereworth, please click the button below.
BOARDING OPEN HOUSE | FRIDAY 8 MAY
Welcome to Boarding at Hereworth
In Term Two of 2026, you can join us at a special event to see how Boarding at Hereworth can give your child an incredible advantage in their early years. The confidence, the camaraderie, the independence and the sense of purpose - these are characteristics we love to see in all of our Herewowrth students, but we see them absolutely blossom among our boarding students. And at our ‘Boarding Open House’ event, you’ll see why.
See for yourself
In this special two hour event you'll be able to meet the team who create such an inclusive, welcoming environment. You'll explore the dorms, the facilities, and learn from our current boarders what their favourite secret spots are in the school. And you'll really get a sense of how boarding at Hereworth is the ultimate advantage - a warm, incredible 'heart of the school' that allows children to explore, grow, create bonds and lay strong foundations for the rest of their lives.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Care
At Hereworth pastoral care is ingrained in everything we do. We consciously focus on ensuring our students have the right levels of support for their academic and personal lives – in and out of school hours.
Our boarders are fully integrated with day pupils in their daily school pursuits and at the end of a busy school day they return to the boarding house, which is a safe, friendly and happy place to all home.
Hereworth’s entire staff works collaboratively, meeting regularly to ensure that our energetic and highly motivating programmes are tailored to meet the students’ needs.
In the boarding house, our students are also encouraged to contribute their feedback on culture, so we can keep improving it to suit its current residents.
For international students, we take pride in giving all of our boarding students a home away from home by enabling regular contact with families back home and maintaining regular formal and informal contact with our boarders and their families.
We carefully monitor the welfare of all our students, providing a firm but friendly environment where our boys & girls feel safe, know where to seek help, and are constantly supported by all staff. We let them cherish their childhood.
So Much To Do
During the week, it is a busy life at Hereworth; clear boundaries and high expectations abound. Good routines are established in the boarding house, and the boarders quickly learn to be independent and self-managing: our students have purpose.
Enjoying Their Own Space
After school, sport, and during weekends, our students enjoy vital 'downtime' to relax and enjoy their own space. They can play sport, bike, and play in the school grounds, or read and play games in the common room.
On-Site Adventures
When school finishes for our day-to-day students, it becomes a playground for our boarders. With our new mountain bike track and Sports Centre to go along with tennis courts, playgrounds, and endless fields, our grounds are ripe for adventure and outdoor activity.
Boarding Staff
We could not have a better person to lead our Boarding House than the current Boarding Director, Mr Ian Scott. Ian has been with Hereworth for over 30 years, and his care for each student, combined with a principled nature and supportive character, make him an outstanding leader for Hereworth’s Boarding community.
Ian is supremely passionate about boarding and sees the House as the heart of the school. One conversation with Ian will give you some true insights into how beneficial boarding can be for these students.
Joining Ian to oversee our new Girls' Boarding Wing will be his wife, Sherryl Scott. This husband-and-wife team brings years of boarding and educational experience with a warm, family-centric approach to pastoral care and wellbeing, making them the perfect tandem to lead our Hereworth boarding into its co-ed future.
Our Boarding House carers reside onsite in the boarding house, so our students know exactly who to contact in any given situation. And with the boarding residence being at the heart of the school, all of our Hereworth staff and tutors regularly spend time getting to know our boarders to help them settle in and progress.
Plus, the Headmaster also has a house on school grounds.
The end result - Our boarding students are surrounded by positive, supportive and caring staff at all times while at Hereworth School.
