Girls' Boarding Comes To Hereworth

Boarding has been an essential part of the Hereworth experience for 100 years. And now, we are excited to announce that we’ll be offering boarding to our Hereworth Girls from June 2026.

Since our move toward becoming a fully co-educational environment, we have seen our female enrolments continue to trend upwards, from the 45 pioneering young women who joined us in 2023 to the 119 girls throughout the school in 2026.

Becoming a co-ed school has been deeply rewarding, and being able to offer our female students and their families the option to board is part of our commitment to boarding both now and in the future.

What To Expect

Our brand new Girls’ Boarding Wing will be a purpose-built private area, creating a contemporary, comfortable environment for our trailblazing boarding girls to enjoy. This one dorm, five-bed facility will sit within the main hostel footprint, while remaining a strictly private zone. The facility features:

  • Independent secure access.
  • Newly renovated private areas, including dedicated showers and toilets.
  • Complete physical partitioning from the boys’ residential quarters.
  • A shared Common Room (TV, couches, bean bags etc)

Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

We’re thrilled to announce our Boarding Director, Mr Ian Scott, will be joined by his wife Mrs Sherryl Scott, thus creating the perfect team to lead our Boarding House into this co-ed future. This husband-and-wife team brings years of boarding and educational experience with a warm, family-centric approach to pastoral care and wellbeing, ensuring our female boarders will feel safe, supported, and heard 24/7.

Plans for the Future

We’re starting small, but have plans to grow. To ensure we maintain the high standards of care Hereworth is known for, we are adopting a phased intake:

2026: Girls’ boarding is open exclusively to Year 7 and 8 female students, focusing on senior leadership and preparation for high school. Please note that we are only launching with 5 beds at this stage and we will prioritise Year 8 female students first and then move to Year 7 students.

2027 & Beyond: Expansion will include additional Year 7 and Year 8 female students, with plans already underway to redevelop the current games room into an additional 5 bed wing. We also have further expansion plans in place should we see girls’ boarding numbers outstrip the 10 beds planned for 2026/2027, and our future enrolments may also include Year 5 and 6 girls if there is a demand for this.

Boys’ Boarding: Our current boarding boys won’t be forgotten anytime soon, as plans are underway to completely renovate the entire boarding hostel interior over the next 18-24 months, ensuring that all of our students benefit from this expansion.

The Response So Far

The great reveal of a 'Girls' Boarding Wing' was communicated to our Hereworth families two weeks ago, and all five beds were snapped up within days.

This is a hugely positive response from our community, validating our decision to not only commit to having a Boarding House for the long term, but to also expand it with a girls' facility.

Boarding is a foundational part of our school’s character, entwined in our very DNA. While boarding has ceased to exist at certain schools around the country, we are committed to offering it as part of who we are, having seen the incredible benefits it can offer our Hereworth students and families.
