If you've ever considered boarding for your son or daughter at Hereworth, but want to see what it's really like before making this incredibly important decision, then join us on Friday 8 May for our Boarding Open House.
Setting them up for the rest of their lives
The confidence, the camaraderie, the independence and the sense of purpose - these are characteristics we love to see in all of our Hereworth students, but we see them absolutely blossom among our boarding students. And at our ‘Open Boarding House’ event, you’ll see why.
Girls' & Boys' Boarding - See for yourself
You’ll see for yourself just how delightful the Boarding House is at Hereworth. For our boys, it’s 55 beds in a semi open-plan, split into 6 dorms, so your son will never feel lost or unseen. You’ll see how new boarders are buddied up with boys who have been there a while, so they always feel included in the day's events. And you’ll meet some of our boarders, including those who have been in the dorms for years, and those who have just started in 2026.
And if you have a daughter, you’ll be able to see the plans behind our brand-new Girls’ Wing in our Boarding House, due to open in June 2026. This exciting development makes our boarding fully co-educational, and at our Boarding Open House you’ll be among the first to see the plans, witness the space, and see how girls’ boarding will integrate perfectly with our current boys.
Meet the people who make the difference
We could not have a better person to lead our Boarding House than the current Boarding Director, Mr Ian Scott. Ian has been with Hereworth for over 30 years, and his care for each student, combined with a principled nature and supportive character, make him an outstanding leader for Hereworth’s Boarding community.
Ian is supremely passionate about boarding and sees the House as the heart of the school. One conversation with Ian will give you some true insights into how beneficial boarding can be for these students.
Joining Ian to oversee our new Girls' Boarding Wing will be his wife, Sherryl Scott. This husband-and-wife team brings years of boarding and educational experience with a warm, family-centric approach to pastoral care and wellbeing, making them the perfect tandem to lead our Hereworth boarding into its co-ed future.
We’ll also have our Headmaster Mr Matt Allen joining us. Matt was previously the Boarding Master at Lindisfarne School, and is committed to boarding remaining a core tenet to Hereworth.
Experience the all-round care and wellbeing
You’ll meet our current boarders, and quickly understand how, living on school grounds, these students create bonds that can last decades. The sense of belonging is not only with the boarders though - it also exists in the boarding families. This true sense of community is a wonderful ‘side effect’ from the Hereworth Boarding House, and you’ll see how this sense of purpose and belonging creates the all-round care and wellbeing every child deserves.
Endless Opportunities
Imagine having 22 hectares of beautiful grounds to explore in? To play, adventure, and be a ‘child’ in? With no smartphones, no devices, just endless opportunities to grow in? That is Hereworth School, after the school bell rings, to our boarders. With near endless sports fields, a mountain bike track, tennis courts, a new Sports Centre and plenty of trees to climb, our grounds become the ultimate playground for our students. You’ll learn some of the best spots, hidden secrets, and favourite games, straight from our boarders themselves.
Full Academic Integration
Let’s not forget this a school, with all the academic opportunities it brings. Our students are here to learn, grow and develop as young people, and our boarders integrate perfectly with our school days. If any of our boarders want to catch up on studies or take a moment to brush up on their classroom speeches, having the library, classrooms and facilities right next door is a marvellous advantage.

Girls' Boarding comes to Hereworth
We recently announced a 'Girls' Boarding Wing' will be constructed at Hereworth, opening on June 1 2026. The truly exciting part is that all five beds in this private, modern girls' dormitory have already been snapped up by our Hereworth families, showing demand for boarding at Hereworth remains strong.
While this new addition to our school will have private quarters and facilities, our boys and girls will still get to interact in the Boarding House Common Room, the Dining Room, and every other aspect of the school. We're a co-ed school with a purpose, preparing our students for a fulfilling life far beyond our school gates. Our co-educational Boarding House is another step in that direction.
